Major Fighters in UFC Fight Night: Whittaker vs de Ridder
Robert Whittaker
Whittaker had one of the most impressive resumes in the UFC middleweight division before he won the interim belt against Yoel Romero back in 2017. He lost the belt to Israel Adesanya in 2019, going on a 3 fight win streak before losing to Adesanya once more in a title challenge. Since then, he has 3 wins and 2 losses. He experienced a brutal injury in his last fight and will be coming back after a dislocated jaw and displaced teeth.
Reinier de Ridder
De Ridder is a former two-weight champion of One Championship, although he lost both his belts before entering the UFC in 2024. Since then, he’s had 3 wins out of 3, finishing each of his opponents in impressive fashion. In 2025, he’s already fought twice, finishing Kevin Holland by rear-naked choke in the first round before taking out Bo Nickal with knees to the body. 70% of his career wins are by submission, and his career record now stands at 20-2.
Sharabutdin Magomedov
Shara quickly became a fan favourite in the UFC thanks to his excellent striking ability and creative finishes. Although he’s no longer undefeated after losing his last fight to Michael Page, Magomedov is still 4-1 in the UFC and 15-1 overall in his professional career. Of his 5 fights in the UFC, 3 have won fight of the night or performance of the night bonuses. What’s more, 80% of his wins are by KO/TKO.
Marc-André Barriault
Marc-André Barriault had a rocky start to his UFC career, losing his first 3 fights before having his first win overturned as a no contest after failing a drug test. After that, he won 5 out of his next 7 fights, before losing 3 and winning 1 in his last 4. He’s now 6-8 in the UFC and 17-9 across his professional career. 50% of Barriault’s wins in the UFC have been by way of KO/TKO.
In terms of their UFC resumes, Whittaker’s is definitely stronger, which is why he’s currently favoured by the MMA odds in this matchup. He is 17-6 in the UFC, and while his form has dropped in recent years, he still has recent wins over Marvin Vettori, Paulo Costa and Ikram Aliskerov. However, he suffered a nasty injury in his last fight against Chimaev, and that might affect him in this clash.
De Ridder may only have 3 fights in the UFC, but he has finished each of them and looked very impressive in his performance against prospect Bo Nickal. In addition, he only has 2 losses in his MMA career, both to the same fighter. He could potentially upset the odds here, although Whittaker will be his biggest test so far in the UFC.
Shara has an exciting fighting style and a talent for securing KO finishes. What’s more, he’s always popular with the crowds on the Abu Dhabi cards, which is probably why the UFC wants to build up his record. This is a relatively straightforward fight for him on paper, and as a result, the UFC odds show him as the favourite.
Barriault has won 3 and lost 3 in his last six fights. While his winning record isn’t great, he’s always exciting to watch, with most of his fights ending in a stoppage. He secured a round 1 finish in his last fight in May, stopping his opponent with clinch elbows. The clinch could be the key to his success in this fight too.
