How the League of Legends competitive format affects betting

Depending on the tournament you’re betting on, the match format could be different, which results in slightly different betting odds and opportunities. The type of format used may affect team performance.

Regional leagues typically use a best-of-3 format for the regular stage, while playoffs typically use a double-elimination bracket and best-of-5 series.

The best-of-5 format makes shock results less likely, as the stronger team will almost always prevail over a larger number of games. Meanwhile, double-elimination means that even if a team faces a strong opponent early on, they still have a chance to progress.

For major international tournaments, the best-of-5 and double-elimination format is also common. At the Worlds, the opening round usually consists of a play-in before teams advance to a Swiss stage. Achieving 3 wins during the Swiss stage means advancing to the single-elimination knockout bracket, where matches are played to the best of 5 games.
