The 2025 Mid-Season Invitational will be held from 27 June to 12 July 2025. The Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, Canada, will be hosting the tournament

History of the Mid-Season Invitational Tournament

The first LoL Mid-Season Invitational was held in Tallahassee, Florida, in May 2015. China’s Edward Gaming defeated SK Telecom T1 from Korea 3-2 in the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center final and set the bar for all future tournaments.

In the years since the inaugural Mid-Season Invitational in Florida, the annual tournament has been held in Shanghai, Sao Paulo, Berlin/Paris, Ho Chi Minh City/Hanoi/Taipei, Reykjavik, Busan, London and Chengdu, highlighting the global interest in LoL and Esports in general.

In 2024, Gen.G beat Bilibili Gaming to win the tournament and break 5 years of dominance from Chinese teams. During Game 2 of the finals, Kim “Peyz” Soo-hwan broke the record for most kills during a single international game, with 28 kills. Gen.G will be looking to defend their crown in the upcoming 2025 mid-season invitational.

Who is Playing in the Mid-Season Invitational 2025?

Format and Schedule of Mid-Season Invitational

For 2025, two teams from each of the five major regions, including the newly formed League of Legends Championship of the Americas and League of Legends Championship Pacific, qualify for the MSI.

Based on their seeding, 4 teams will take part in Stage 1, the Play-in stage, which is a double elimination bracket, using a best-of-five format. The two top teams will advance to Stage 2, joining the top-seeded 6 teams.

Stake 2 is also a double elimination bracket, with winners decided by a best-of-five format.

Another change to the 2025 MSI is the Fearless Draft format. This means that teams can’t pick a champion that they’ve already played in a series. This keeps the competition fresh and forces teams to use a variety of tactics and strategies.
